We’re all sitting in silence, contemplating everything Edward has said when there’s a knock at the door, causing Alice and I jump and the boys to look at each other, silently communicating a battle plan from the expressions on their faces.
“Let me see who it is before you get out your Hex bags, boys,” Alice says, getting up and disappearing to the front door.
“Charlie!” Alice says loudly, obviously letting us know who it is. “To what do we owe the pleasure?”
I feel panic spreading through my limbs from the ground up before realising that I’m not doing anything wrong by being here. Charlie’s the one keeping secrets from me, not the other way around. It still doesn’t mean that I don’t feel like a little girl in trouble though.
“They’re in the den,” Alice says loudly again. “Right this way.” A few seconds later Alice comes through the door and gives me a wide eyed look, apologising.
“Edward. Jasper. Emmett,” Charlie says, looking at each of the boys in turn before realizing that I’m also there. “Bella? What are you doing here?” Charlie asks confused, a frown making his middle aged face look a little older.
“Hi Dad,” I say and get up to give him a peck on the cheek. “What are you doing here?” I ask, turning his question back on him.
“I came to see the Masen boys but... I can see now you guys are busy, I’ll come back later,” Charlie says and hesitantly turns to leave the room.
“Oh don’t be silly,” I say, a little irritated. “You know dad, I’m not a little snot faced girl with pigtails anymore.”
“W-What?” Charlie asks confused.
“I know you probably haven’t said anything to me before because of some misguided idea of protecting me Dad, and I appreciate it. But, I don’t appreciate being lied to, even if lying was just not telling me.”
“Bells,” Charlie says looking like he’s at a total loss about what I’m talking about. “I don’t think this is really the time to have this conversation. Whatever this conversation is.”
“Demons, Dad,” blurt out. “I know about them.”
“W-wh-what?” Charlie stammers.
