I walk out of the station without another look at Charlie’s receptionist. I must remember to tell Emmett about her; he’ll need some entertainment while he’s here and I don’t want him to even contemplate trying to chat up Bella Swan.
I’m lost in thought of chocolate brown eyes and porcelain skin as I round the corner of the police station. Suddenly I crash into something firm but soft. It feels like someone has punched me in the gut and I stumble backward from the impact and land flat on my back. Before I’m able to right myself I feel a soft body land on top of me and I find myself staring into the chocolate brown eyes I had just been thinking about. Images of glistening porcelain skin and intertwined limbs flashed through my mind like a strobe light show.
“Oh my God, I’m sorry. I’m such a klutz sometimes. I didn’t see you,” she says, pushing herself off me before slipping and hitting me in the chin with her head again.
“Ow!” We both exclaim and burst out laughing. I take her by the shoulders and slowly help her get off me and get up off the ground dusting myself off.
“Are you okay?” I ask, concerned. She bumped into my chin so hard, I’m sure she’s going to end up with a bruise. She’s wearing a gray, a-line pencil skirt with a soft white button-down shirt and a pair of glasses that makes her look like an erotic school teacher. I have to shake my head to clear it of X-rated thoughts of her bending over a desk in the principal’s office.
“I’m fine, it happens to me all the time,” she replies and looks up at me for the first time since our tumble.
“Hi,” I say, smiling at her. “I’m Edward Masen. You’re Bella, right?”
“Umm, yeah. Hi,” she replies, the hesitation in her tone making her voice quiver, almost unperceptive to me. The last time she saw me I was dragging a crazed Alice out of her room. No wonder she’s apprehensive.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t able to introduce myself to you before. My hands were kind of tied up.”
“You could say that, I suppose,” she says laughing lightly. It’s a beautiful sound that seems to makes the air around us seem just that little bit electric. “Well, it was nice to meet you Edward.” Bella blushes, making that electric current in the air shoot through my body. I wonder what that blush would look like on the rest of her.
“Yeah,” I say clearing my throat, trying to regain my composure. “Nice to meet you, Bella.”
The effect this woman has on me makes no sense. I’ve never been someone who spent any time rolling around in the hay, as they say. I leave that to Emmett. I’ve never had time for emotions and love; I leave that shit to Carlisle and Esme. But seeing her blush and hearing her laugh has had a bigger effect on me than watching Casa Erotica.
I stand, frozen in place, watching her walk away from me, listening to her heels click on the ground, as if entranced by a love spell. Just before she disappears from view she gives me a quick look and blushes again. The sight makes my dick twitch, letting me know he likes the thought of her blushing all too much. It takes me a few minutes to get my brain functioning again but eventually I shake off this strange feeling and turn to get into the Impala.
